The Gaslight Anthem are an American rock and roll band from New Brunswick, New Jersey. Gaslight Anthem released their first album "Sink or Swim" and second full-length album, "The '59 Sound", was released on August 19, 2008 through SideOneDummy Records. Gaslight Anthem - Live Performances

On August 7, 2009, The Gaslight Anthem performed at Lollapalooza in Chicago, and played at Pinkpop on June 1, 2009. The band performed at the UK's Reading and Leeds Festivals in late August, and has finished an extensive North American headline tour set for September and October. Murder By Death, Frank Turner, The Loved Ones, Jesse Malin, The Measure (SA), and Ninja Gun performed in the support slots on this tour.

In addition to 5 UK dates, the band have been confirmed to play at festivals including Bonnaroo Festival, The Austin City Limits Music Festival, Southside Festival, Hurricane Festival, Hard Rock Calling, Rock Werchter, Reading and Leeds Festivals and Øyafestivalen. Details of North American tour dates were announced on April 27, 2010 on a new website for American Slang.

Gaslight Anthem - Awards & Achievements

In 2009, The Gaslight Anthem supported Social Distortion on their European tour and was announced as a support act for Bruce Springsteen at Hyde Park Calling. In addition, the band has received airplay on BBC6 Music.

On August 6, 2008 the band made British music history becoming the first band to ever appear on the cover of Kerrang! magazine without the magazine having previously written about them. Kerrang! called them "The best new band you'll hear in 2008." In August 2009, The Gaslight Anthem won the 2009 Kerrang! Award for "Best International Newcomer".

Gaslight Anthem - Other Releases

In 2008, the band covered "God's Gonna Cut You Down" for the Johnny Cash tribute album All Aboard! A Tribute to Johnny Cash. In 2009, the band's song "I'da Called You Woody, Joe" was featured as part of the soundtrack of the video game Skate 2 and Skate It. The band sometimes covers Tom Petty's "American Girl" and "Refugee" live.

The Gaslight Anthem released a live album Live at Park Ave exclusively on vinyl on April 19, 2009. This live EP consists of 6 songs, recorded live at the Think Indie store, Park Ave CDs, in Orlando, Florida, during the band's tour with Rise Against, Thrice and Alkaline Trio. The last song played, "Once Upon a Time" is a cover of Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise, previously released as an iTunes bonus track on the band's successful album The '59 Sound.

Gaslight Anthem - Americal Slang

The Gaslight Anthem entered the studio once again with producer Ted Hutt to record their second album for SideOneDummy Records. The band's new album, entitled American Slang, was released on June 14, 2010 in the UK and June 15, 2010 in the USA. According to frontman Brian Fallon, the songwriting on the new album is different than on the band's previous efforts.

The album was recorded and produced at the New York Magic Shop record studio. The band released the first single from the album, "American Slang", on their Facebook page on March 23, 2010, along with a full tracklist and cover art. The album reached the #3 position on the UK midweek album charts during its first week. "Rolling Stone" magazine gave the album 3 1/2 stars out of five, saying that "American Slang arrives with serious advance buzzThe album debuted at #16 on the Billboard 200, moving 27,000 copies, and was the #1 independent album for that week. The album currently holds a Metascore of 80% on Metacritic, based on 23 professional reviews

Gaslight Anthem - Albums (2007 - 2009)

Gaslight Anthem released their first album Sink or Swim on XOXO Records in May 2007. The Gaslight Anthem's full length debut Sink or Swim was well received by both independent music review sites such as punknews.org, AbsolutePunk.net, and more mainstream publications such as Spin.com.

The band's second full-length album, The '59 Sound, was released on August 19, 2008 through SideOneDummy Records. The record was produced by Ted Hutt and features Hot Water Music's Chris Wollard and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones's Dicky Barrett as guests. The album was voted the #1 album of 2008 by eMusic, and received a high rating from Pitchfork Media.

Gaslight Anthem - History

Before The Gaslight Anthem, drummer Benny Horowitz and guitarist Alex Rosamilia played in The Killing Gift. Prior to The Killing Gift, Benny Horowitz was the drummer of The Low End Theory, Full Circle Swing, and Dilemma. He was also responsible for booking several punk rock and hardcore shows at the Manville Elks lodge in Manville, New Jersey.

Front man Brian Fallon played in This Charming Man with Michael Volpe on lead guitar, Christopher Clementi on bass and Mike LeBoeuf on drums prior to forming The Gaslight Anthem. Brian Fallon also played lead guitar, and lead vocals in Cincinnati Rail Tie, prior to forming The Gaslight Anthem.
